How to Measure Jeans

Helpful tips on how to measure a pair of jeans as a technical designer. This video highlights the standard main points to measure on any pair of jeans.
My measuring skills were attained as an assistant technical designer at premium denim brand, PAIGE, where I also completed TOP comments, and managed frequent vendor communication.
Fit Comments
Poplin & Lace Mini Dress
June 2025
The upper body is slightly too wide + the armhole and back neck shapes are too straight. The side and back lengths are dipping. Reduce 1/2" each and blend to front @waist. Reduce the front AH length 1/2" to bring the shoulder seam forward (falling back).
Reshape the armholes by reducing the across front and back each 1". Increase the armhole drop 3/4". Raise the front lace yoke placements at CF and near AH 3/4" each.
Crepe de Chene Mini Dress
April 2025
CDC Self:
Reduce the sleeve length 3". Reduce the sleeve opening cir. 2". Reduce the sleeve width @6" up from opening 3/4". Reduce the chest cir. 1 1/2".
Lining:
Revise the lining to be body only with a strap width of 3". Keep the lining tacked at the self shoulder seam, attached @NK, CB zipper and back smocking.
Satin Modal Midi Skirt
February 2025
The skirt cascade is falling flat. Increase the cascade width @top 2". At the bottom of stitch down, increase the cascade width 1/4" and
re-blend. The shape should smoothly curve.
Cotton Viscose Ankle Skirt
October 2024
Reduce underskirt widths @ 1st and 2nd tiers each 2 1/2". Reduce underskirt width @ bottom hem edge 3 5/8". Remove the panel at the underskirt.
Make the skirt tiers follow continue to the underskirt edge. Remove the shirring from the underskirt overlapped portion. Keep the shirring from the wearer's left SS to the skirt overlap.
